Game | Diver Dave

Games, Fun is the Most Important Thing#

At the end of September, I went crazy and played for 26 hours in three days. I took a short vacation and completed the game Diver Dave. It's been a long time since I had so much fun playing a game. During those three days, I would wake up early in the morning to go fishing and joke to myself, "There are fishers in Baoshan..." and "Now I know what I look like at forty..."

You can play it as a simulation management game: running a sushi restaurant, farming, and raising fish. You can also experience the ocean scenery and enjoy the storyline. It all depends on you.

As the story progresses, you will enter new areas, encounter new fish, and have new friends join your team. After defeating the boss, you can all celebrate together and thank everyone for their hard work.

In this part, what I want to express the most is how wonderful it is to have such a big team. Immersing myself in it feels like being part of a big family with humanistic feelings (starting to get emotional, sorry).

  • Dave: He is an otaku who provides us with weapons. When forging weapons, the scenes are all elements of the otaku culture. He is a pure otaku who comes to the party as a virtual image.

  • Banqiao: The chef in our restaurant! From working in a big hotel to our small shop, he urges me to go fishing and stock up every day...

  • Fanghui: The HR manager in our shop. Our shop's development relies on her management. She is like a headteacher.

  • Otto and his son: One drifted here, the other raps. They farm, raise fish, and raise chickens here. You may find it unreasonable, but that's how it is!

  • Dave: A worker, the protagonist himself. During the day, he not only goes fishing but also checks the fields for weeds and the condition of the fish fry. He even goes to the designated spot at night to catch fish that only appear at night. He fully exploits himself as a worker.

  • And other members...

Catching fish, growing vegetables, and selling sushi at night, everything is in perfect order. It brings great joy to those who are perfectionists with OCD. After closing, I sleep and wake up with enthusiasm for the next day. Although it's difficult to achieve this in real life, I can experience it in the game.

Living this kind of life on September 10th and 7th, after a while, we can collect fish and vegetables, skip the daytime directly, and come to the night to sell sushi, entering a "retired and laid-back life." No one can stop me!

The entire game process is not long. If you only focus on the storyline, it may end in a dozen hours. After finishing the storyline, it becomes a simulation management or collectible game. However, it doesn't do well in these aspects. You may feel a lack of motivation to continue playing, and the feedback mechanism is not as strong as before (encountering new fish, meeting new companions). That's why my game time stagnated...

The game's progression relies on the connection between Dave and the merfolk. In my opinion, this part is not well written and feels somewhat abrupt. There are also so-called environmentalists who cause trouble during the process, but they are not well connected. After praising the game's simple and fun mode, the storyline and plot are poorly done... It even feels like an unfinished product without a well-polished game flow...

But I still want to recommend it. Despite the flaws in the storyline and the lack of AAA-level graphics, throughout the game, there are no deliberately set levels. Instead, it tries to let you "experience." If you don't want to collect materials, you can fish in the traditional way. The boss battles are designed to be cooperative, allowing you to experience rather than struggle. If you don't want to progress the storyline, you can live a life of fishing. If you find fishing too tiring, you can skip that day and rest. If you find serving dishes too tiring, you can leave it to others and just wait to collect money (being a heartless boss is not recommended).

I think every game will have its flaws and not everyone's taste. That's why there is the concept of niche games. As long as a game brings you happiness, it's enough. You can play it according to your own wishes and find your own happiness.

Similarly, each indie game may not be intended to cater to everyone or strive to become a bestseller. Unlike Tencent or NetEase, big game companies that provide timely feedback and induce you to go online every day... I really like the ending menu, where you fight monsters in space, and after each creator's name is broken, it becomes the virtual image of each creator, completing their own joy in their work!

Finally, you are the player, experiencing the joy of the game...

Am I an "I" Person?#

INFP

When talking to new friends about our respective MBTI types, I said that I am actually an "E" person, even though I may seem like an "I" person. I have taken the test multiple times this year, and the results have shown both "I" and "E". The boundary is not clear. My friends used to think I was an "E" person, and they even called me a social butterfly...

Before the Mid-Autumn Festival, I rushed back and visited my middle school teachers:

  • My homeroom teacher, we chatted for about ten minutes. He was still emotionally excited during class, but after class, he was like, "I'm off, going to pick up my son, off work, off work"...
  • I talked to my math teacher for almost an hour. I was her third batch of students, and I shared some changes in my life. She also marveled at the changes in my personality and jokingly said that I should start considering my own affairs...
  • My Chinese teacher, who retired and returned to teach, wished me to have hair in the future...
  • Most of the other teachers have been transferred.

Actually, I'm not very attached to home. During this period of time, I want to become more three-dimensional... But I also understand that family and friends still need to be in constant contact. Our parents are gradually getting older, and after all, we see the world on their shoulders.

Happy National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival, my friends.
